Tests of the Ninja - Chapters 1 - 7
In the first 7 chapters of the manga, naruto is in the academy/is trying to become a genin. He is hated by many of the students becasue the nine tails is sealed inside of him. He is also very careless and gets into a lot of trouble. After passing the academy exam, Naruto is chosen in the same team as Sasuke, and Sakura. Their senei is kakachi, a really good jounin ninja. During the examinations he tells them to grab a bell in order to become a genin. As soon as they began, they know they cant win becasue he is soo much better. At the end of the exam, he tell them that he wanted them to just work together and cooperate. He then tell them that he will give them another chance. They finally realize that shinobi's must work together and they pass the exam.

The Worst Possible Client - Chapters 8 - 17
In the 2nd volume of the manga, Naruto and the team is given a level C mission, which is to protect a bridge builder from robbers and thugs. As the mission begins, some other ninjas attack and naruto chokes, and sasuke literally rips them apart. At the end, kakachi comes and puts a stop to the ninjas. At that time, Naruto promises himself that he would not run away from a fight and that he would not loose to sasuke. As they continue, another shinobi comes after them, his name is zabuza.He is a jounin also a good ninja, but not as good as kakachi.He traps kakachi, and then kakachi orders his team to run, but Naruto remembers the promise he made and he never backs down from his word, because it is the way of the ninja. He makes a clever plan and asks for Sasuke to throw his shuriken, Naruto uses busha no jutsu on the it as sasuke throws the shuriken. when is passes zabuza it turns back into naruto and he throws a kunai. his plan works, and kakachi breaks free from the trap. The match is over.
